Silence: a reflection through art
By dealing with a certain way of interceding in life, absolutely uninterested in “representation” processes, Sonia Guggisberg started thinking in her creation processes establishing in her works an increasingly political procedure. What starts to make sense into this experience is the anonymous testifying process, diving into its moves, dissolving alterities and explaining a certain way of noticing it from images, sonorities and minor gestures.
The artist Sonia Guggisberg accompanies this community whose members live around the world and even without knowing each other share the same quest: How art can interfere in those who seem to have been dispossessed of their own lives? Furthermore, what presumably the artist has in common with this reality is the fact of never has arrived in the risk areas where she decided to act in her personal life with a priori given expectations or models. First of all, it is mainly a listening about being there, living with, observing and let being transformed by the other.
This exhibiting project is motivated by artistic documentary production experimentation and searches languages capable of formally translate the need of interrogating the intellectual present silence concerning the gigantic human displacement and contemporaneous refuge.
Sonia Guggisberg´s research pertain to identities redesign undertaken by thousands of migrants leaving their homeland launching themselves to the sea with no certainty nor destination.
In this scenario the research pursuits interrogating and translating the silence presence in different instances. The million people invisibility silence, the silence of images screaming for reality´s urge yet with no solution for consequences, the life in his past and future emptying reflection silence. It means a silence transforming reality into gap and performs its testimony by an audiovisual speech.
The exhibition object is to present some of these experiences witnessed in such territories as Greece. What connects the experiments diversity is the bodies depletion derived from moving obligation. Destituted from their own lives, the only option left open is dealing with vulnerability and self-undoing. It is not about utopia or restorations of any kind. There is an irreversibility that crosses bodies silently asking what still is possible to do when we know that are not alone.
Art here has become indisciplinary and unrelentingly political. The works thematical indisciplinariety fed by theorical basis from Art and Sociology is formally mirrored by freedom present in addressing diverse languages. The works assuming documentation of real enlighten latent questions seeking to translate in images the reality overflow that has not been word.
The exhibition proposes to analyse singularities that are obliged to be redesigned as of enforced moving from their countries. Millions deconstruction and adaptation are inevitable. By using audio visuals resources, Sonia Guggisberg reports the diverse origins identities redesign and its still unsolved impacts.

PROPOSAL
A set of installation works in audio, video and photos aggregated to big images adhesive panels generating an immersive space builds the exhibiting project.
Christine Greiner is full-professor in Communication & Arts in PUC – SP (Pontifical Catholic University - São Paulo State - Brazil) and Level 2 Scientific Productivity Researcher in CNPq (National Council of Scientific & Technological Development). She teaches in the Post-graduated Studies Program in Communication and Semiotics course, where coordinates the Oriental Studies Centre; and in Body´s Art Communication course.
Silêncio: reflexão pela arte
Ao lidar com um certo modo de interceder na vida, absolutamente desinteressado dos processos de “representação”, Sonia Guggisberg passou a pensar seus processos de criação, instaurando em suas obras, procedimentos cada vez mais políticos. O que passa a dar sentido a essas experiências é o processo de testemunhar vidas anônimas, mergulhar nos seus movimentos, dissolver as alteridades e explicitar um certo modo de percebê-las a partir de imagens, sonoridades e gestos menores.
A artista Sonia Guggisberg faz parte desta comunidade cujos integrantes vivem espalhados pelo mundo e, mesmo sem se conhecerem, compartilham uma mesma indagação: como a arte pode interferir na vida daqueles que parecem ter sido despossuídos das próprias vidas? Além disso, o que a artista parece ter em comum com esta realidade é o fato de nunca ter chegado, em sua vida pessoal, às áreas de risco onde decidiu agir, com expectativas ou modelos dados a priori. Trata-se antes de mais nada de uma escuta, de estar lá, de viver com, observar e se deixar transformar pelo outro.
Este projeto expositivo é motivado pela experimentação na produção artística documental e busca linguagens que possam traduzir formalmente a necessidade de interrogar a presença do silêncio intelectual a respeito do gigante deslocamento humano e refúgio contemporâneo.
A pesquisa de Sonia Guggisberg diz respeito ao redesenho de identidades empreendido por milhares de migrantes que deixam a terra natal e se lançam ao mar, sem certezas nem destino. A desconstrução de suas singularidades é inevitável e com ela, a necessidade de transformação.
Neste cenário a pesquisa busca traduzir e interrogar a presença do silêncio em diferentes instancias. O silêncio sobre a invisibilidade de milhões de pessoas, o silencio das imagens que gritam pela urgência da realidade e de suas consequências ainda sem solução, o silencio que reflete o esvaziamento de vidas, de seus passados e futuros. Trata-se de um silencio que transforma a realidade em lacuna e apresenta seu testemunho em um discurso audiovisual e sonoro.
O objetivo desta exposição é apresentar algumas destas experiências, testemunhadas em territórios como na Grécia.
O que conecta a diversidade dos experimentos é o esgotamento de corpos que foram obrigados a se deslocar. Despossuídos da sua própria vida, o que lhes resta é lidar com a vulnerabilidade e os desfazimentos de si. Não se trata de utopia ou de qualquer tipo de restauração. Há uma irreversibilidade que atravessa os corpos, indagando silenciosamente o que ainda é possível fazer quando sabemos que não estamos sós.
Aqui, a arte tornou-se indisciplinar e inexoravelmente política. A indisciplinaridade temática das obras, alimentada por bases teóricas da arte e sociologia, é espelhada formalmente pela liberdade com que se aborda diferentes linguagens. As obras a partir da documentação do real, iluminam questões latentes e buscam traduzir em imagens o transbordamento da realidade que não se fez palavra.
A mostra propõe uma análise sobre as singularidades que são obrigadas a se redesenhar a partir de mudança forçada de seus países. A desconstrução e adaptação de milhões de pessoas é inevitável. Christine Greiner é professora livre-docente em Comunicação e Artes pela PUC-SP e pesquisadora de produtividade cientifica nível 2 no CNPq. Ensina no Programa de Estudos Pós-Graduados em Comunicação e Semiótica, onde coordena o Centro de Estudos Orientais; e no curso de Comunicação das Artes do Corpo.

Travessia is a documental work where live soundtracks and video get mixed. In video you see a hatch projection that moves reproducing real vessel´s balance and on soundtrack, songs brought by refugees from their home countries are mixed with vessel´s noises. With captures realized by Sonia Guggisberg in Lampedusa and Greece on Mediterranean Sea, it translates the reality spillover about migration wave that does not happen in words.

No vídeo, vê-se a projeção de uma escotilha que chacoalha e reproduz o balanço real do barco e na trilha músicas trazidas pelos refugiados vindas de seus países de origem são misturadas aos ruídos do barco. As captações realizadas por Sonia Guggisberg no Mediterrâneo rumo à Lampedusa e na Grécia traduzem o transbordamento da realidade sobre a onda de migrações que não se faz palavras
